Story by Scott J
“Pounding the Pavement”. Not only is that the name of Anvil’s 17th studio album, but you could say that defines the story of their 40+ year musical career. At times, I’m certain Lips and Robb wouldn’t say it was a career as much as it’s been an adventure. While many bands could have some resentment toward an industry that did them rotten, Anvil has no regrets. They’ve spent the whole of their lives relentlessly touring and writing new music, and there’s no end in site.
Interview with Lips and Robb
The Rockumentary, “Anvil! The Story of Anvil”, portrays a band that never truly got their due. But, the never took their eyes off the prize. After speaking with Lips and Robb, life since the filming of the movie couldn’t be more different. The whole experience and ultimate outcome was a godsend. After years of being dodged by commercial success, Anvil now receives the same respect from a music business that they’ve always enjoyed from their peers and fellow Rockers.
In the last 10 years alone, Anvil has put out 4 studio albums Juggernaut of Justice (2011), Hope in Hell (2013), Anvil Is Anvil (2016), and their newest Pounding the Pavement (2018). Their latest release unquestionably references where Lips and Robb are currently in their lives. Tracks like “Doing What I Want” and “Pounding the Pavement” represent ultimate success as a result from years of perseverance.
If you haven’t already seen “Anvil! The Story of Anvil”, I highly suggest you do so.
