Story, Photos, & Interview by Scotty J
The Dead Daisies have only 1 speed and that would be full throttle. Since the release of their most recent album, “Burn It Down“, they’ve toured relentlessly across North America. Now, with their tour just wrapping up in Los Angeles, this group of well seasoned Rockers will get a brief break before The KISS Kruise VIII.
Although they may shun the Super Group label, how can a band comprised of Doug Aldrich, Marco Mendoza, John Corabi, and Deen Castronovo be thought of as anything else? The Dead Daisies epitomize the best sounds of Rock & Roll and is the sum of their parts. I was fortunate enough to catch up with Doug and Marco not too long ago (see interview below) and get the full back story on the bands formation. It would have been nice to get Corabi’s take too, as he is a hometown Philly guy. But, I did at least get to have some fun off the record conversation backstage. For anyone that likes Guns N’ Roses, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, and Mötley Crüe, there’s NO WAY The Dead Daisies shouldn’t be on your playlist.
Doug Aldrich and Marco Mendoza Interview
With the release of “Burn It Down“, The Dead Daisies have once again proven the passion for Rock music is alive and well. The song ‘Dead And Gone’ has quickly risen to the top of the music charts, and has a pretty awesome Official Music Video to go along with it (see below). Throughout the course of the North American tour, numerous shows were sold out! Catching up with them in Lancaster, PA with Hookers & Blow was a lucky opportunity that couldn’t be passed on. The entire “Burn It Down” tour continues on with what may be The Dead Daisies best lineup to date. Ever since Doug Aldrich and Deen Castronovo joined, it’s as if the band got an added shot of adrenaline!
Doug Aldrich: So Marco is a guy, if you’re gonna put a band together, you call Marco because Marco knows everybody.
Scotty J: You’re that guy huh? (looking at Marco)
Doug Aldrich: (looking at Marco) Well you’re very friendly. You’re outgoing. You’re always on tour working. And you know a lot of cats.
Marco Mendoza: You hang out in LA long enough… and yeah yeah.
Doug Aldrich: If you’re gonna have a party and you want people to come, you tell Marco and he’ll just invite everybody.
Scotty J: So if you’re looking for a gig, Marco is the guy.
The Dead Daisies are essentially a Ratt Pack of some of the greatest rockers over the last 25 years. “Burn It Down” is an album you must check out as it’s likely their best to date. If you missed these guys in North America, you’ll never have a better reason to pull a Peter Pan right on over to the UK. See remaining tour dates. https://thedeaddaisies.com/shows/
