Story and Interviews by Scotty J
It is amazing to think that it was only about a year and a half ago when Greta Van Fleet burst onto the music scene! This young foursome from Frankenmuth, Michigan was introduced to Rock Titan Music Television almost immediately after their debut EP ‘Black Smoke Rising’ was released. From the moment I heard “Highway Tune”, there was no question these guys were the next great rock band to gain world wide acclaim.
Greta Van Fleet’s Sam and Danny on Rock Titan TV
June 28, 2017 was the day Greta Van Fleet first came to my attention. Had I only heard and not seen these guys, I’d have immediately thought ‘Black Smoke Rising’ was a lost Led Zeppelin set of recordings that never made it public. There was no question Josh, Sam, Jake, and Danny possessed a sound that would garner quick attention. The comparisons to Led Zeppelin were going to be unavoidable. But, would this be a good thing or a bad thing? Only time would tell.
Greta Van Fleet’s Jake Kiszka from the Tour Bus
Getting to speak with Jake, Sam, and Danny before they had really taken off is something I’ll always treasure. It’s one of those “I can say I knew them when” moments. As young as the Kiszka brothers and Wagner are, the Rock and Roll world is theirs to reform and dominate as they will. The recent release of Greta Van Fleet’s ‘Anthem of the Peaceful Army’ will prove to be another example of a new band making a splash with their debut album. Nothing could make that more evident then the fact they’ve been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards. Greta is up for Best New Artist, Best Rock Song for “Black Smoke Rising,” Best Rock Performance for “Highway Tune,” and Best Rock Album for the band’s double EP, From The Fires (Lava Records/ Republic Records).
