While the weather outside was bipolar, it was a great day to be a rock and roller! If you had no place to go, you should’ve been at the show! Asbury Park, NJ regularly hosts amazing shows and is a hotbed for touring acts. On top of its prestigious musical background and history, stemming from The boss Bruce Springsteen, and our own Bon Jovi, it’s inevitably a premiere spot for some epic rock ‘n’ roll music! Thursday night May 25 brought just that!
Within the last year, a new venue has opened in town allowing for an even greater draw. It’s called the House of Independents. On this night, Hinder, Nonpoint, and Chrysalis rocked the house! One thing that really stood out is that the Nonpoint fan base are truly tight bunch, and are supportive of all bands who are on the card with them. They come early and saw every band before and after the guys took the stage. It was beautiful to see and experience first hand.
The greatest anticipation of the evening was to see these guys from Barstow, CA, known as Chrysalis, take the stage. They did not disappoint! As soon as the intro kicked in, the crowd spun around like a private in the Army at attention. Yessi Burton, the man behind the mic, put on a clinic with his guttural screams and songbird like vocals. Chrysalis just recently released their latest album “Reminder”, which can be found in all your musical outlets Internet and store wide. I strongly recommend investing in this piece of art. Be sure to check out my interview on the scene with Yessi Burton and Scotty J at the news desk. We discuss how their tour has been going, some interesting news about their lineup, and more.
As our night of rock continued, the hype and energy in this room just kept building! Much of this was due to the absolutely devoted and diehard fanbase of Nonpoint. Elias Soriano, is a most entertaining frontman to watch. He knows how to make a crowd do as he pleases as everyone’s feet are inspired to jump off the floor with what is known as the Nonpoint rule. The rule states that during certain tracks in the set, you better be jumping as high off the floor as possible. If the person or people next to you are not doing the same, you grab them by the shirt and make them jump! By the time the dust had settled, and these hard rock veterans left the stage, the entire place was lit up like a Christmas tree! On display were smiles, joy, and an overwhelming feeling of musical euphoria.
With every great show, comes great responsibility. That responsibility would belong to the headliner! In this case that headliner was Multi platinum “rock n roll” artist Hinder! These guys have been through a lot, especially since passing the vocal torch to current frontman Marshal Dutton. An awe inspiring sight was when they played “Lips of an Angel”. Members of all the bands, merch crews, and other entourage just began singing their hearts out, slow dancing, and having an awesome time together! Hinder brought the house down as they closed the set with their first big hit “Get Stoned”! If you are a fan of these OKC rockers, and weren’t in attendance, then you goofed big time.
Music is the universal language. It’s a form of communication we all understand, no matter what nationality it comes from or what language it’s spoken in. If it moves you, it moves you. It’s a beautiful thing to witness how love for a band can bring so many together. There’s nothing like rock n roll and nothing will ever kill its pulse. In the words of Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach, and as seen on his clothing brand “Lovers Are Lunatics” merchandise, “Rock’s not dead, you are!”. So, do yourself and the bands you love a favor. Buy their music, merch, and occupy a venue whenever they roll into town! You never know what can happen at the show unless you go! If you don’t… well… YOU COULD BE MISSING OUT.
