Just a short while ago, Rock Titan Music Television personality Scotty J got to interview living music legend John Oates. Toward the end of the interview, Scott hinted at potentially catching up with John on his book signing tour, for “Change of Seasons”, in Philadelphia. As fate would have it, Scott not only caught up with Oates in Philadelphia. He made the trek up the I-95 corridor to feature Oates at SubCulture in NYC. On top of the book signing, John had an interview with ESPN analyst Doug Glanville, followed by audience Q&A. He then proceeded to play 3 of his own acoustical folk arrangements “All I Am”, “When Carolina Comes Home Again”, and a rendition of “Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor” by the legendary Mississippi John Hurt simply called “Pallet”.
Meeting John Oates fans from New York City to Philadelphia was a special and entertaining experience all by itself. People of all ages came from far and wide to meet the man who’s entertained them with his music for decades. Now, these same fans will have the opportunity to read some of the most intimate details of John Oates life. With the help and guidance of author Chris Epting, John Oates published his memoirs “Change of Seasons”. Scotty J picked up copies for both himself and his mother. After all, it was Scott’s mother and her family that shared stories from the 50’s and 60’s as John grew up just a few houses down the street in North Wales, PA. It will be interesting to see if any such stories are mentioned in the book?
What started out as an interview grew into a journey that, while brief, will provide a lifetime of memories. John Oates made dreams come true. It’s only fitting that phrase would become one of his most iconic songs with Daryl Hall. An interesting life by an amazing musician is contained within the pages of “Change of Seasons”.
