Despite what many seem to believe, Rock is NOT dead! In fact, it’s being revived and is in the blood. Inside Royal Blood! A young musical duo consisting of Mike Kerr on bass and vocals, and Ben Thatcher on drums made their presence known at Philadelphia Pier. That’s it. Just two guys from Brighton, England bringing another “British Invasion” of Rock to America! Why emphasize that it’s only two guys? Because their sound is so forceful, even seeing them Live, you can’t believe that sound is coming from them alone!

Opening for Queens of The Stone Age, Royal Blood perform every bit as a headliner! They electrified the crowd to kick off the night at Philadelphia’s Festival Pier! Touring behind their very successful sophomore album, “How Did We Get So Dark?”, Royal Blood has been on a nonstop tear through the music world since their inception and debut LP, “Royal Blood” in 2013-14 respectively. The band opened their set with “Where Are you Now?” from their latest album, to a great reception from the capacity crowd! They had no elaborate stage setup and no wild lighting effects, pyro or anything of the sort. There was just Mike on his bass and Ben on a raised drum platform. They didn’t need anything but their bone crunching songs to get everyone fired up! Ben runs his bass guitar through multiple effect and distortion peddles to create a truly unique sound that mimics both bass and lead guitar. It’s a huge part of their very unique sound. Ben may not appear to be the most animated drummer. But make no mistake, he is extremely precise and the absolute back bone of Royal Blood! In one of the few instances that you ever get to hear Ben speak, he stepped away from his kit to the center stage mic and told the Philly crowd how he loved our Liberty Bell!

Diving into their second song of the set, they played another new single called “Lights Out”. This was followed by “Come On Over” from their first album. Jumping back to their new material on “How Did We Get So Dark?”, they played “I Only Lie When I Love You”. They made sure to mix their set well between their two albums, jumping from one to the other and back. “Little Monster” from their debut LP and “Hook, Line & Sinker” from their new LP were echoing loudly across the Philadelphia waterfront! The next song was “Figure it Out” which put them on the charts and still gets heavy rotation on the radio. One more new song, “Hole In Your Heart” and one of Royal Blood’s biggest hits to close out their set, “Out of the Black.”

Royal Blood continues on tour with Queens of the Stone Age for more dates that can be found on royalbloodband.com. For their short life as Royal Blood, they have gained a massive fan base in the U.S. and around the world. They also gained the attention of and opened for Rock legends such as Iggy Pop, The Foo Fighters and continue to play on many of the worlds top festivals. Their newest LP, “How Did We Get So Dark” on Warner Bros. Records is widely available in stores and online! There’s no sophomore jinx with this album. It’s every bit as solid if not more then their debut album so make sure to make it part of your music library!
