The New Wave of British Heavy Metal had a profound impact on the metal scene as we know it today without question. Saxon is one of the movements founding fathers. With a music career spanning four decades, and producing 22 studio albums, frontman Biff Byford and company aren’t done yet. These legends of heavy metal are back with power of the THUNDERBOLT!

Fresh off their tour with UFO, Saxon founder and lead singer Biff Byford confirmed that their new studio album ‘Thunderbolt‘ will be released early in the winter of 2018. With the upcoming European tour, there are no signs of slowing down.

In a recent interview with Rock Titan, Byford’s very words were “We’ve got no breaks on this bus mate”. Byford continued, “a lot of people my age are dying. But, music is ageless. As long as we’re playing our music great and writing new stuff, then we’re good with that.” When I asked Biff about whether or not he thought about his own mortality since the passing of his good friend Lemmy Kilmister, he simply replied “when you get past 60 when it comes it comes. There’s no point worrying about it because your name is on the bullet. So you might as well just do what you do well and what you were born to do and do it.”

Words from a living legend like Biff Byford are words to listen to in deed. After all, it’s Saxon that had a profound influence on bands like Metallica and some of the most influential figures in the Heavy Metal Music scene, such as Metal Blade Records founder Brian Slagel.

The release of Saxon’s Official Music Video “Thunderbolt” represents the title track of their 22nd studio album. Also contained in their newest masterpiece is a tribute to MOTÖRHEAD’s Lemmy Kilmister entitled “They Played Rock And Roll”.
