This past Wednesday in Camden, NJ was truly an amazing Knight!!! No, I spelled it right. The legendary Sir, Rod Stewart brought his tour with good friend, Cyndi Lauper to town! Rod Stewart was Knighted by the Queen of England in 2016 and is one of a handful of British music artists to be given such an honor. And that’s just one of many honors Sir Rod has wracked up over the years! He’s in the UK Music Hall of Fame and twice inducted into the U.S., Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist and with his former band, The Faces. At a young and very energetic 72 years old, Rod looked and sounded as great as ever!

The opening of his show, His stage was shrouded by a large black and white checkered curtain. It dropped to reveal his band who most of which were decked out in matching checkered outfits and instruments. One might have thought for a second that they had accidentally came to see a Cheap Trick concert! The band played a little intro to which Rod came out and greeted the enthusiastic crowd. His trademark wild hair was only matched by his Zebra pattern jacket and sparkling shoes! The back of the stage was made up of several large LED screens flashing colors and patterns to the music.

He launched into his opening song which was one of his many huge hits, Infatuation!!! That went right into another hit which was a cover called “Some Guys Have All The Luck” by The Persuaders. For his third song, Rod brought out “Miss Kinky Boots herself” Cyndi Lauper to do a duet on “This old heart of Mine” by The Isley Brothers. They playfully sang back and forth together, smiling the entire time at each other. Cyndi had just earlier opened the show with her classic hits “She Bop” “True Colors” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”. I was personally thrilled when she played her song from the movie, The Goonies “The Goonies R Good Enough”.

Rod Stewart is one of those artists who has such a huge catalog of music, you can easily forget just how many huge hits he has! His set list went on to include, “Tonight’s The Night, You Wear it Well, Forever Young, Rhythm of My Heart, Young Turks, Love Is and Down Town Train. At this point in the show, Rod and band have changed into shiny gold outfits and have all moved to the front of the stage to be seated for an acoustic set. This included a parade of more hits like “The First Cut Is The Deepest, Ooh La La, You’re In My Heart, Have I told you Lately, River Deep- Mountain High and Reason To Believe. A lot of bands may have that one single song they always hold out for the end of the show. When you have more than one BEST song like Rod Stewart, you just play them all! “Maggie May, Stay With Me” had the crowd on their feet! And of course Rod would not leave his fans disappointed as he came back out on stage in a black outfit with a cowboy hat on to do, Do You Think I’m Sexy!!!

It’s certainly no secret at all that Sir Rod is a huge soccer fan! Or “football” as they call it in the UK. The band played the final song called, Enjoy Yourself while Rod expertly punted about 20 soccer balls out into the crowd!!! It was an overall outstanding performance for any performer, but considering he’s 72, it really was amazing to see him still at the top of his game!
