It’s amazing how much can change in the course of a year. I’m not sure I can recall a band in recent memory that garnered more rapid attention than Greta Van Fleet? These guys weren’t some manufactured “boy band”. They didn’t slave away for years in a local music scene hoping to gain wider recognition. Josh, Jake, Sam, and Danny launched themselves into the Rock & Roll spotlight with serious rocket propulsion.

Greta Van Fleet Interview featuring Sam Kiszka and Danny Wagner!

These four young men from Frankenmuth, Michigan are now all the rage in today’s Rock Music scene and rightfully so. For years now, I’ve heard how Rock & Roll was dead or at the very least most certainly dying. Then comes along Greta Van Fleet. I have to admit, if not for an amazing introduction from their publicist, I’d have take one look at them and thought “Oh no! It’s the second coming of Hanson!”. No sooner did I listen to their debut EP ‘Black Smoke Rising‘ and I was floored! Obviously, by now, everyone has heard the Led Zeppelin comparisons. It’s impossible to listen to Josh Kiszka and not think Robert Plant! Hell, even Plant himself admitted as much. That comparison however is a bit of a double edged sword.

Led Zeppelin is Rock & Roll royalty! What is up with Greta Van Fleet having an unmistakeable similar sound? Well they sure got your attention didn’t they? The rest of the world and mainstream media was captivated by it as well. The hit single “Highway Tune” topped the Billboard Rock charts in September 2017 for four weeks in a row. That said, it was my early belief (as well as many other Rock critics and enthusiasts) Greta must separate themselves and establish an identity all of their own. For much of the second half of 2017 and first half of 2018 ‘Black Smoke Rising’ and second EP ‘From the Fires’, was all we had to digest. Then, just recently, the first Greta Van Fleet full length album released. ‘Anthem of the Peaceful Army’!

“When the Curtain Falls” was the first single to debut from this new album, and it was performed LIVE on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Having heard a number of the songs off ‘Anthem of the Peaceful Army’, I can say that GVF has found a path for a whole new generation of Rock & Roll! The Kiszka brothers and Danny Wagner may have very well created an army that will loyally follow them for years to come. I feel extremely privileged to have met these fine young men at the very beginning. Let’s all hope these guys survive the test of time and continue making great music for years to come.
